Black Camera was initially the self-published newsletter of the Black Film Center & Archive and gradually became a micro journal of Black film studies. It ceased publication in 2008 when the Black Film Center & Archive collaborated with Indiana University Press to publish Black Camera: An International Film Journal, a peer reviewed journal devoted to the study and documentation of the Black cinematic experience. The Black Camera Collection consists of the published issues of the Black Camera newsletter and micro journal from 1985 until it ceased publication in 2008, as well as the associated papers, correspondences, photographs, administrative files, copyright and publishing agreements that document the administrative history of the newsletter.
